Frequently Asked Questions

Is the passport fee refundable if I cancel my appointment?
No. Passport fees are non-refundable once paid, regardless of the reason for cancellation or non-appearance. You can reschedule your appointment up to 3 times without paying the fee again, but within the validity period of the payment receipt (usually 1 year).
Can I pay the passport fee in cash at the PSK?
No. The fee must be paid online before your appointment through the Passport Seva portal. Cash payments are not accepted at PSK. Payment methods accepted are Debit Card, Credit Card (Visa/Mastercard), Net Banking, and UPI. Carry your printed payment receipt to the PSK.
Why is there an extra 3.75% charge?
The 3.75% is a payment gateway convenience charge levied by the bank or payment gateway for processing online transactions. This is standard across government portals. The actual passport fee (₹1,500, ₹2,000, etc.) goes to the Ministry of External Affairs. So for a ₹1,500 passport, the total amount paid will be approximately ₹1,556.
Is there any fee waiver for certain categories?
As of 2025, there is no general fee waiver for BPL (Below Poverty Line) cardholders or economically weaker sections for regular passport services. However, some state governments may have schemes to reimburse passport fees for specific categories. Check with your state government or local Passport Office for current information.
